“An American adventurer, William Walker (1824-60), went to Nicaragua at the request of government officials in Leon. He supposed to help them defeat Granada in a battle over which party would control the country, but after the bloody battle, Walker made himself president in 1856. For a year he ruled the country as an oppressive tyrant. Despite declare English the official language, and legalized slavery. He also tried to make Nicaragua part of the United State.”
“ Famous Nicaraguans, BIANCA JAGGER won a scholarship to study at the Paris Institute of political studies. While living in Paris, she met British rock star MICK JAGGER. They married in 1971, but was divorced in 1979. Today used her fame to boost awareness of Nicaragua’s sentimental issues as well as the plight of the indigenous people in central America.. She had also directed a documentary of her homeland. She continues to work for human rights through out the world.”
“ One of the most important Roman Catholics holiday in Nicaragua is PURISIMA, also called GRITERIA, a celebrated on December 7, but in Managua the holiday involves a week if festivities, ending with a huge festival on December 7. It is believed the tradition of celebrating PURISIMA originated centuries ago when the Cero Nergo volcano erupted. It spilled lava for days and the people in nearby Leon feared that it would never stop. Then one day they placed a statue of virgin Mary aka Maria de conception on the smoldering ground near the volcano soon became still.”
